🇮🇳 THE LION OF KARGIL — A NAME THAT BECAME A LEGACY 🇮🇳
On the birth anniversary of Captain Vikram Batra, Param Vir Chakra (Posthumous), India remembers a soldier whose courage transcended fear and whose supreme sacrifice became an enduring chapter in the story of our nation.
Born on 9 September 1974 in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, Vikram Batra was commissioned into the 13 Jammu & Kashmir Rifles. During the 1999 Kargil War, he emerged as one of the most inspiring young officers of the Indian Army.
🇮🇳 A Soldier Who Led From The Front
During Operation Vijay, Captain Batra led his men in the capture of Point 5140, displaying extraordinary courage in close combat. After the victory, his radio message — “Yeh Dil Maange More” — became forever associated with the indomitable spirit of Kargil.
On 7 July 1999, he was tasked with capturing Point 4875. In one of the fiercest battles of the conflict, Batra fought the enemy at close quarters and continued leading his men despite suffering grievous injuries. He made the supreme sacrifice after helping ensure the success of the mission.
For his exceptional bravery, inspiring leadership and supreme sacrifice, Captain Vikram Batra was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military decoration for gallantry, posthumously.

Captain Batra was only 24 when he laid down his life for the nation. His story reminds us that courage is not the absence of fear — it is the decision to put duty before self.
His name lives on not merely as a chapter in military history, but as a symbol of courage, leadership, sacrifice and unwavering love for Bharat.
