A lot of young people today say, “I’m in love!” after just a few weeks of talking. Some rush into relationships because of feelings, pressure, or fear of being left behind. But if we look at the Bible, Jacob and Rachel’s story shows us what real love looks like.
Jacob loved Rachel so much that he worked 7 years for her. But when he was tricked and married to Leah instead, he didn’t give up. He worked another 7 years just to be with Rachel. In total, Jacob waited 14 years for the one he truly loved. And the Bible says those years felt like only a few days because of his love for her.
Now let’s be honest: how many of us today are willing to wait? Many can’t even wait a few months before calling someone “the one.” Many get into relationships just for “kilig,” and when the feelings fade, they jump to the next one. That’s not love, that’s selfishness.
If you can’t wait, maybe it’s not love. Maybe it’s just desire.
If you can’t control your emotions, maybe it’s not God’s plan, but just your impatience.
True love is not cheap, not instant, not shallow. True love is patient. True love honors God’s timing. True love does not pressure you to sin.
Young people, don’t destroy your future by forcing love today. Learn from Jacob: true love waits, true love sacrifices, and true love honors God.
