what is seen is not real
aaine par chhapa hua chehra
the face that's etched in the mirror
tarjuma aaine ka theek nahin
the mirror does not interpret it correctly
hum ko Ghalib ne yeh dua di thi
Ghalib had blessed me thus
tum salamat raho hazaar baras
may you live to be a thousand years
yeh baras phakat dinon mein gaya
the years have passed in loneliness
lab tere meer ne bhi dekhe hain
even kings hav admired your lips
pankhadi ek gulab ki si hain
which resemble the petals of a rose
baat sunte toh Ghalib ro jaate
when they speak even Ghalib cries
aise bikhare hain raat din jaise

motiyon vaala haar toot gaya
a broken strand of pearls
tumne mujhko piroke rakha tha
